Copy Editor

As Copy Editor, you will have editorial responsibility for all content our team produces on behalf of our clients. Your primary objective is to ensure all written material adheres to our quality standards. Material to be edited and proofread includes, but is not limited to, web page content, blog posts, email newsletters, case studies, presentation decks, printed design, advertisements, and social media posts. You will “own” our quality and editorial standards and will update them as needed, and you will oversee the copywriting and editorial workflow for the company. 

Responsibilities

  • Create editorial guidelines for various outputs (web pages, social media posts, email newsletters, reports, and more)
  • Check spelling, grammar, punctuation, and facts quickly and accurately for various stages of production
  • Review live website content for accuracy and adherence to editorial standards and guidelines
  • Report on output quality and improvement opportunities 
  • Offer solutions to editorial and quality problems 
  • Coach members of the team on improving their writing and grammar skills
  • Train new members of the team on our editorial guidelines and quality expectations 
  • Address quality issues with specific members of the team
  • Maintain an up-to-date library of industry standards and client brand specifications

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, or related field of study
  • 5-10 years of experience as an editor (fast-paced/high-volume environment preferred)
  • Exemplary editing and proofreading skills
  • Advanced knowledge of grammar, spelling, syntax, and punctuation
  • Thorough understanding of AP Style
  • Rigorous attention to detail concerning writing accuracy and grammatical correctness
  • No tolerance for errors
  • Superior organization and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to influence cross-functional teams
  • Ability to learn new programs, processes, systems, and client brands quickly 
  • Strong work ethic and a "do whatever it takes to get the job done" attitude
  • Strong sense of ownership over all content produced on the team
  • Strong critical and strategic thinking skills (demonstration of successful campaign implementation preferred)
  • Knowledge of digital marketing campaign and tactics (including SEO, email marketing, social media marketing) is a plus
  • Open to telecommute options for individuals who reside more than 60 miles from the office
